Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why choose electrolysis over other methods?

A: It is the only proven method of permanent hair removal.  It gives the skin a clean, smooth surface.

Laser hair removal won't work on blonde or white hair, olive or dark skin.  Additionally, the long term health effects have not been evaluated.

Waxing, threading and tweezing are only temporary. Additionally, these methods often result in ingrown hairs and discoloration. These methods can require a lifetime of maintenance. Many can appear inexpensive but cost more due to long term use and are found to be inconvenient.

Q: How many treatments are needed?

A: It varies with each client.  Treatments usually range from 15 minutes to an hour.  There are a number of factors that play into the treatment plan.  Each individual varies in their hair growth cycles due to hormone output, genes, stress levels, current medications, etc.  We will sit down together and plan the treatments necessary for you to achieve your desired results.

Q: Does electrolysis hurt?

A: This often depends on the individual and the hair removal area.  Some people will experience mild discomfort.  However, I do use a numbing cream for those clients who experience discomfort.

Q: Can unwanted hair be removed from any part of the body?

A: The answer is yes.  However, the most common areas are the face (eyebrows, chin, upper and lower lips, ears), chest (breasts), underarms, bikini line, abdomen, legs, and back.  At your free consultation, I will discuss a treatment plan that specifically addresses your hair removal needs.

Q: Is electrolysis safe?

A: Absolutely!  I use disposable needles/probes and all of my forceps (tweezers) are sterilized.  You have nothing to worry about.

Q: What is electrolysis?  How does it work?

A: Electrology is the science of permanent hair removal. Through technology,
we safely apply a small amount of electricity to the base of the hair follicle.
This process destroys the hair growth tissue, resulting in the permanent removal
of hair.

Looking at the process as a whole: An electrologist inserts a sterile needle
into the opening of the hair follicle. A small amount of current is then applied to
destroy the hair growth cells.

Medical electrolysis devices destroy the hair growth cells with chemical or heat
energy. There are different methods to effectively remove hair from the
hair follicle and destroy the growth cells that cause hair growth.

Three methods used today that fall under the heading of electrolysis:

1. Thermolysis: This process uses short waves of heat (energy).
This method creates heat that is used to destroy the growth cells in the hair follicle.

2. Galvanic (chemical process): The current creates a chemical reaction which
destroy the hair follicle rendering the growth cells inactive. In this method, there
are mulitple needles being utilized together.

3.Thermolysis and Galvanic combination (the method I use): Thermolysis heats up
the chemical reaction in the follicle destroying the hair root.
